British Gas Confirms Details for Former Tomato Energy Customers

British Gas Business has now shared more details about the transfer of Tomato Energy customers after Tomato Energy ceased trading.

Following Ofgem’s announcement earlier this week, British Gas Business has now shared more details about the transfer of Tomato Energy customers after Tomato Energy ceased trading.

British Gas Appointed as Supplier of Last Resort

Ofgem has appointed British Gas as the Supplier of Last Resort (SoLR) for all Tomato Energy customers. This ensures that gas and electricity supplies will continue without interruption.

If your business was previously supplied by Tomato Energy, there’s no need to take any immediate action – British Gas will handle the transfer process on your behalf.

What Happens Next

  • Transfer date: British Gas became responsible for supplying Tomato Energy customers on 9 November 2025.
  • Account setup: New accounts are currently being created, which can take between 7 and 21 days.
  • Meter readings: It’s a good idea to take note of your current meter readings, as these may be required to ensure your first British Gas bill is accurate.
  • Account details: Once your account is live, you’ll receive your account number and details of your new tariff.

During this time, British Gas is working with Tomato Energy’s administrators and energy brokers to make the process as smooth as possible for everyone affected.

Your New Energy Plan

All transferred customers will initially move onto British Gas’ deemed rates, which have been agreed with Ofgem.

Once your account is fully set up, you’ll be able to review and switch to a different British Gas tariff or choose a new supplier if you wish – there are no exit fees or restrictions at this stage.
