Who are SSE Business Energy?

SSE, formerly Scottish and Southern Energy, is one of the UK’s largest business energy suppliers, headquartered in Perth, Scotland. Established in 1998 after the privatisation of the energy grid, it supplies gas and electricity exclusively to businesses across the UK, serving around 500,000 metering points. SSE is a leader in renewable energy, generating power through wind and hydro assets and offering 100% renewable electricity on all fixed-price contracts.

Originally part of the UK’s ‘Big Six’ energy suppliers, SSE provided power to millions of domestic customers before selling its household energy division to OVO Energy in 2020. This shift allowed SSE to focus on commercial energy and its commitment to sustainability, with plans to quintuple renewable energy output by 2030.

SSE prides itself on excellent customer service, with initiatives to support accessibility and inclusivity. The company continues to invest heavily in low-carbon energy projects, positioning itself as a key player in delivering clean energy solutions for UK businesses.

Summary of SSE Business Energy Tariffs

SSE Business Energy offers a range of tariffs tailored to businesses of all sizes, with a strong focus on flexibility, transparency, and sustainability. All tariffs include 100% renewable electricity as standard, sourced from SSE’s UK wind and hydro assets. Key tariff options include:

  • SSE Protect: Fully fixed contracts for 6 months to 3 years, ideal for small and medium-sized businesses. Prices include all non-commodity costs, offering stability for accurate budgeting. Early exit fees may apply. Fixed tariffs guarantee no price rises during the contract, and businesses receive smart meters and thermostats as part of the plan.
  • SSE Choice: This is their partially fixed tariff. It offers fixed wholesale prices for up to 3 years, with variable non-commodity costs. Suitable for businesses seeking competitive rates while accommodating some price fluctuations.
  • SSE Shaping: Your energy usage profile is fixed throughout your contract, but you can take advantage of live market prices to optimise costs as conditions change. This tariff also locks in your non-baseload energy, allowing you to trade baseload-only power—one of the most transparent options in the wholesale market.
  • SSE Cash Out: This plan fixes your energy usage profile while integrating real-time energy consumption data with half-hourly pricing for the following day, helping you identify opportunities to reduce usage. Additionally, you can generate extra income by selling surplus energy back to the grid through the SSE Virtual Power Plant.

With simple switching options and a commitment to renewable energy, SSE Business Energy provides competitive and sustainable solutions for UK businesses.
